On May 23, 2019, the twenty-second FIFA U-20 Men's World Cup tournament began.

This event was held in Poland for the first time. It started on May 23 and ended on June 15, 2019. The process of selecting the host of the 2019 U-20 World Cup and 2019 U-17 World Cup was started by FIFA in June 2017. FIFA member associations could bid for both tournaments, but the right to organize them could fall to different countries. Bydgoszcz, Gdynia, Łódź, Lublin, Bielsko-Biała and Tychy are the six cities chosen to host the tournament. The opening match and the final took place at the Widzew stadium in Łódź. Representatives of the Polish Football Association declare their willingness to organize the championship in 12 cities. On May 30, 2018, FIFA decided to withdraw the right to organize the Championships in Lubin due to insufficient accommodation facilities in the city. On September 14, 2018, it was officially announced that the sixth city co-organizing the event would be Bielsko-Biała.
