Best Historical Debut of the Year - we know the winners

On March 14, 2024, at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, an award ceremony was held for the authors of the best unpublished master's and doctoral theses devoted to the history of Poland and Poles in the 20th century.

Competition named after The Władysław Pobóg-Malinowski Award for the "Best Historical Debut of the Year in the field of modern history" is announced annually in two categories: master's theses and doctoral theses. The works submitted by the authors are assessed by the Competition Committee, appointed by the President of the Institute of National Remembrance and the director of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Representatives of the competition organizers took part in the gala: Dr. hab. Karol Polejowski, deputy president of the Institute of National Remembrance, Ph.D. prof. IH PAN Bartosz Kaliski, deputy director of the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, members of the competition committee, the IPN College, competition winners.

This is an extremely prestigious competition. The competition is the culmination of the first stage for masters, but also for doctors, the first stage of shaping the personality of a historian - stressed Dr. Hab. Karol Polejowski.

He noted that Władysław Pobóg-Malinowski, who is the patron of the competition, should be a role model for all historians who combine passion for history with the professional path they would like to follow. The historian's skills are developed during master's or doctoral seminars, hence academic supervisors play an important role, as they properly shape the historian's skills and the ability to think analytically and formulate conclusions. Completing a master's thesis and later a doctoral thesis is the completion of a certain stage of shaping as a historian.

The Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance, congratulating the young historians awarded in the competition, wished them not to lose the passion with which they started writing their master's and doctoral theses, and to always remain faithful to the basic values that a historian must always take into account: reliability, honesty and service to history. .
