Bogumiła Wander, associated with Polish Television since the 1970s, accompanied Poles for decades as an unforgettable announcer, presenter and compere. She announced programs live on TVP1 and TVP2 and hosted the largest Polish music festivals in Opole and Sopot. She was also involved in the production and implementation of television programs: she made game shows and programs on art topics.

She also has two documentaries to her credit: "Conrad Drzewiecki about himself. To nie ja, to taniec", which was made in 1997 and produced by TVP1, and the film "Andrzej Strumiłło. A-4 dziennik rysowany" from 1998. She also appeared in the film "W filiżanka" directed by Barbara Sass in 1987, playing herself in an episode. She was a member of the Association of Polish Journalists, and for ten years worked on the board of the organization," the statement reads.

Bogumiła Wander was born on October 7, 1943, in Kalisz, into an artistic family - her father was a musician, her mother an actress and puppeteer. After graduating from high school, she wanted to study art history, but she ultimately decided on history, but she was not very happy with her choice and was still looking for her path.

When she heard about the competition for a speaker on Łódź television in the late 1960s, she did not hesitate for a moment. "It was a chance to enter a different world, and I am not talking about wanting to be popular. I was simply driven by curiosity about life," she told "Super Express". She managed to pass all four stages and that's how she got her first job. It turned out that the camera loved her and the audience loved her too; she was valued for her professionalism, admired for her charisma, the unusual timbre of her voice, her beauty and presence (Wander said that she did not have a stylist, she was responsible for her own clothes and make-up).

She began her career at the Łódź TVP Centre, and her talent and beauty were soon noticed and she was employed at the Warsaw centre. From the mid-1970s, she announced programmes live on TVP1 and TVP2, and after the diversification of both channels in the 1980s, she remained at TVP1. She was a compere at the Soviet Song Festival in Zielona Góra.

In 1979, she stopped working in television, leaving with her husband for Brussels. She returned in 1982. In later years, in addition to working as an announcer, she was also involved in television production on artistic topics and the preparation of the periodic ballet magazine "Życie na pointach".

Bogumiła Wander suffered from Alzheimer's disease in recent years. She died on Tuesday, July 30, at the age of 80 (PAP)
