Forensic technicians perform many activities at the scene of various incidents. One of these activities is the inspection of the scene of the incident, which they improved during training conducted by the Forensic Laboratory of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Gdańsk.
Inspection is a procedural activity that primarily involves detailed observation, detection and then securing forensic traces at the scene of various events. The inspection may also concern persons, things or bodies. The inspection is carried out using the senses and using technical means in order to explain the nature and circumstances of the event and then identify its perpetrator.
The purpose of the inspection is to reconstruct the event and secure evidence that is necessary for the purposes of criminal proceedings. The experience and knowledge of police technicians is necessary here, as these are unique activities.
For the purposes of practical classes, experts staged an event that was created by technicians under the supervision of experts from the Forensic Laboratory in Gdańsk. In this particular case, the assumption was to inspect two cars used to smuggle a significant amount of narcotic drugs, involved in the kidnapping of a person and an attempt to steal drugs by a rival criminal group.
Experts from the laboratory of the provincial headquarters supervised the correctness of activities performed by technicians and their appropriate behavior at the scene of the incident. They checked, among other things, the protection of bystanders, the order in which the traces were secured, the correctness of completing the protocols and the correctness of the entries with the records belonging to the secured traces.
At the end of the training, the entire course of tasks performed by police technicians was discussed. Experts from the Forensic Laboratory of the Police Headquarters in Gdańsk could therefore share their experience and knowledge with police officers from their subordinate units, so that they could perform their tasks as effectively as possible during their daily service.
