Food may become more expensive

Zaktualizowano: 4 cze

“My recommendation is to go back to 5% of the VAT rate on food" said Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He had started the discussion with the Minister of Finance, Andrzej Domański on that matter.

Currently, there is a zero VAT rate for food products in Poland. This solution is in force until the end of March. What will happen afterwards? We still don't know.

"We are working with the Minister of Finance and other ministers on such actions that will allow us to extend various protective measures for consumers, although perhaps not to the same extent as in the most critical period" Tusk said.

The zero VAT rate on food products leads to a smaller takings of PLN 2.75 billion per annum to the state budget.

VAT on food products was reduced from 5% to 0% on 1st February 2022. It covers basic food products such like fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy and cereal products.
