Higher Mining Office

On June 24, 1922, the Higher Mining Office in Katowice was established by regulation of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland. This day is considered to be the foundation of modern Polish mining supervision.

Higher Mining Office – central government administration office, supervised by the Minister of Industry. It is one of two central offices based outside Warsaw. The office is headed by the president, who is appointed and dismissed by the prime minister.


The main task of the State Mining Office and its subordinate district mining offices is to supervise and control mining plants in Poland in order to protect the life and health of miners, protect the environment in mining areas, and recultivate post-mining land.
