History of AGH University of Krakow - opening of the university

The Academy was founded in 1913 and opened on 8 April 1919. A number of research activities are carried out at AGH University of Krakow in various areas. These includes technical, hard, social and earth sciences. It is one of 10 universities in Poland with the status of a research university.

The university includes, among others: 17 faculties, a research center - Academic Center for Materials and Nanotechnology and teaching centers.

AGH offers studies at three levels: first and second cycle, as well as education at doctoral schools. The university educates over 20,000 students and employs over 2,100 academic teachers (including over 200 professors and over 500 university professors).


In foreign rankings, AGH is ranked first among Polish technical universities, including: in The Center for World University Rankings 2022-2023 and 1st place among Polish technical universities in the so-called Shanghai ranking - Academic Ranking of World Universities 2021
