Homework is no longer compulsory and will not be graded

Controversial changes concerning education have come into force from the 1 of April.

Students will now have more time to consolidate their knowledge, prepare for tests, read books, and, most importantly, pursue their passions and rest, argues the Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka.

In grades 1–3 of primary school, teachers will not assign homework to be completed by students during after school free time.

In grades 4-8 of primary school, students will not be obliged to do homework assigned during free time. Completion or failure to complete homework will not be graded.

However, as the Ministry of Education emphasizes, the regulations do not exempt students from the obligation to study at home, i.e. learning to read, reading books, learning vocabulary and other types of material.
