Inauguration of the European Days of Archaeology 2024 in Poland

The inaugural meeting of the celebration of archaeology and archaeological heritage – the European Days of Archaeology (#EDA) – will take place on 12th of  June. The Archaeological Museum in Biskupin will be a unique venue for the inauguration of this year's edition. The coordinator of #EDA in Poland is the National Heritage Institute.

Every year, during the European Days of Archaeology (14, 15 and 16 June), numerous lectures, workshops, presentations and shows are organised, which allow participants to familiarise themselves with the work of archaeologists and actively participate in discovering the secrets of the past.

In 2024, the inaugural meeting of the European Days of Archaeology will be held on 12 June at the Archaeological Museum in Biskupin.

The full programme is published in the event: Inauguration of the European Days of Archaeology 2024 in Poland – Archaeological Museum in Biskupin – NID.

The location of the event also refers to the 30th anniversary of granting the status of a historical monument to the first Polish monuments. In the early 1990s, the then members of the Council for the Protection of Monuments drew up a list of 100 objects meeting the criteria developed for world heritage sites, taking into account the historical aspect related to the history of Poland. On this basis, the first list was prepared and on September 8, 1994, the then President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Wałęsa, issued orders establishing the first historical monuments in Poland. The entries were arranged alphabetically, and so Biskupin appeared in the first position.
