Janusz Rewiński - Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta

Posthumously, Janusz Rewiński has benn awarded by President Andrzej Duda by the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding contributions to artistic and creative activity. The order was handed over to Rewiński's family by presidential advisor Tadeusz Deszkiewicz on behalf of the president during the funeral ceremony that took place in the Church of St. Our Lady of the Angels in Warsaw. Deszkiewicz also read a letter from the President of the Republic of Poland addressed to the ceremony participants.

In his letter, the president noted that an exceptionally talented and sensitive movie and stage actor had passed away - a charismatic, gifted with an unparalleled vis comica creator of characters who won the hearts of millions of viewers. "A brilliant satirist and columnist, and at some point in his life also a politician and member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of the first term, he was always a proud individualist - and at the same time a conscious citizen and patriot, striving not only for his own freedom, but also for the independence, dignity and prosperity of our country. Homeland," wrote the president.

He pointed out that Janusz Rewiński was sensitive to matters concerning the common good, consistently sovereign in his opinions and artistic and personal choices, and was a great inspiration for younger colleagues looking for their path as creators and as people.


In the letter, Duda also noted that "whenever I remember with gratitude the support with which Mr. Janusz Rewiński honored me during the presidential elections, I also remember his satirical works and interviews from recent years." "Sometimes in Aesopian language, sometimes completely directly, with charm and humor, and at the same time with exceptional civil courage, the late Janusz Rewiński touched on the most important and often the most sensitive social and political problems in Poland," wrote the president.


Duda also pointed out that "aware of his own value as an artist, man and citizen, manifestly rejecting all kinds of environmental pressure or unfair criticism, he lived and created as he wanted - in accordance with his own conscience, on his own rights."


He also emphasized that Rewiński's art would be missed, as well as his engaging, cheerful disposition, insightful comments and intelligent wit. "But above all, an example of how to be a truly free and independent person," he added.
