March 28, 1940 - arrest of Janusz Kusociński

Janusz Tadeusz Kusociński, alias Kusy (born January 15, 1907 in Warsaw, died June 21, 1940 in Palmiry) - Polish athlete, Olympic gold medalist from Los Angeles in the 10,000 m race, silver medalist of the first European Championships over 5000 m. Multiple champion and Polish record holder in medium and long runs.


Participant in the defense of Warsaw, activist of the independence conspiracy during the German occupation, murdered in Palmiry. He was a member of the underground Military Organization "Wilki" (nicknamed Prawdzic).


On March 28, 1940, he was arrested by the Gestapo after being denounced by a German, Szymon Wiktorowicz, at the gate of the house at ul. Noakowskiego 16, where he lived. Initially he was imprisoned in Mokotów, from there he was sent to the Gestapo in al. Szucha 25.


During interrogations, he was tortured in order to force a confession.


On June 20–21, 1940, he was transported from Pawiak to Palmir near Warsaw. He was shot by the Germans near Palmyra, in the Kampinos Forest, as part of the AB operation aimed at the extermination of the Polish intelligentsia. - says Wikipedia
