The idea of commemorating Bohdan Smoleń in the form of a so-called monument bench (although in this case the monument depicts the artist sitting on one of two chairs placed at a table) was proposed by Bohdan Smoleń's long-time collaborator and friend Krzysztof Deszczyński, who was also the organizer of the fundraising campaign for the construction of the monument. The public fundraising campaign was held under the slogan: "Smoleń Eternally Alive". On 8th of January 2019, the Poznań City Council passed a resolution on granting consent to erect a monument to Bohdan Smoleń. A stage of public consultation was held, during which the residents of Poznań could express (by sending e-mails) their opinion on its form and location and share their comments and proposals related to the planned monument.

The design of the monument was selected during the competition entitled "Monument to Bohdan Smoleń - "and there quietly be"", organized by the "Become a Star of Cabaret Association" and the University of Arts in Poznań. The monument was cast in bronze at the Studio Garstka foundry in Szymanów near Śrem. The author of the monument's design is Piotr Socha, winner of a competition organized for students of the University of Arts in Poznań.source – Wikipedia
