National Security Council in Białystok

The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, convened a meeting of the National Security Council. It took place at the headquarters of the Podlaskie Branch of the Border Guard in Białystok. The meeting was an external meeting in connection with the crisis on the state border with Belarus, where recently there have been intensifying attempts by groups of illegal migrants to force the border.

The meeting began with a minute of silence to honor the memory of Private Mateusz Sitek - a soldier of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade, who was mortally wounded while patrolling the Polish-Belarusian border.

– Today, it is primarily our soldier, who deserves safety and protection, not these who attacks the Republic of Poland and who tries to break through our border – Andrzej Duda emphasized. – We should make every effort to identify the perpetrators of this murder and punish them appropriately, regardless of where they are.

We cannot allow anyone to raise a hand not only against our soldiers and officers, but above all against the Republic of Poland.

– I wanted this meeting here to be, through our presence, an expression of common and uniform support of all the most important representatives of the Polish political scene for the defense of the border of the Republic of Poland, but above all for the defenders of this border – Andrzej Duda noted.

During the meeting, the following topics were discussed: topics related to improving the safety of Polish soldiers, including, above all, the possibility of them performing tasks in the border region. – I hope for widespread support for my bill on the activities of state authorities in the event of an external threat to state security. We really need such an act, it will introduce solutions that are based on the difficult experience of almost the last three years - said the President of the Republic of Poland.

After the National Security Council meeting, Andrzej Duda paid a visit to the area where soldiers of the Military Task Force "Podlasie" are stationed.

– Since I have been serving as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the issue of whether a Polish soldier can perform his tasks safely and return home safely from service is of fundamental importance to me. That is why the death of a soldier at his post, murdered by migrants and bandits, is such a shocking event for me, said Andrzej Duda.

The president added that the sense of security of Polish soldiers is the Polish raison d'état.

Soldiers must be sure that the Republic of Poland cares about them as much as they care about their homeland.
