NBP bought 130 tons of gold over the course of a year

A successful investment since the price of gold on the markets has increased significantly

The gold resources of the National Bank of Poland at the end of the year amounted to 11.53 million ounces, or 358.7 tons.

A year earlier - at the end of 2022, NBP had 7.35 million ounces of gold, i.e. 228.7 tons.

Balance increase by PLN 4,180.5 thousand ounces (130.0 tons) resulted mainly from gold purchase transactions by NBP on the interbank market carried out in 2023.

At the end of 2023, gold stored at NBP is 3.37 million ounces, i.e. 104.9 tons, worth PLN 27.36 billion; gold on accounts in foreign banks - 8.16 million ounces, i.e. 253.8 tons, worth PLN 66.23 billion, it was also reported.

At the beginning of February this year. NBP President Adam Glapiński informed that the management board decided to increase gold resources to 20%. foreign exchange reserves from the current approx. 13%. Later, the vice-president of the National Bank of Poland and first deputy president, Marta Kightley, announced that the National Bank of Poland will increase gold reserves to 20%. this and next year.
