On 27th of May 2004 the Olympic Center in Warsaw was opened

The concept of the Center was developed in the 1980s. After the Polish Olympic Committee's request to the Capital Planning Office of the Capital City Office in the first half of 1986 Warsaw to indicate the location for construction, a decision to determine the location was received in March 1987.

On 16th of December 1988, an agreement was signed with the President of the capital city. Warsaw. A year later, on 10th of December 2001, the mayor of the Warszawa-Centrum Commune issued the final decision on the conditions of development and land development. The final agreement on the general implementation of the investment by Echo Investment SA was signed on 9th of October 2002. On 11th of October 2002, the cornerstone was laid.


In March 2005, the Management Board of the Polish Olympic Committee adopted the idea of ​​naming the Center after John Paul II. The naming ceremony took place on 18th of May 2005, on the 85th anniversary of the Pope's birth. Commemorative plaques were unveiled by the Primate of Poland, Józef Glemp, and the president of the Polish Olympic Committee, Piotr Nurowski.
