Over half a million Polish Złoty fine for TVN television!

The National Broadcasting Council imposed a financial penalty on TVN24 television station for broadcasting the documentary movie "Bielmo. Franciszkańska 3" (“Leukoma. Franciszkańska street 3”)


"During the explanatory proceedings initiated by the National Broadcasting Council, experts confirmed that the material doesn’t meet the criteria of documentary and the standards of journalistic ethics" the National Broadcasting Council's wrote in its statement published on their website.


Maciej Świrski, who is the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council, emphasizes that "The media freedom and freedom of public expression are not limitless." "The broadcast was based on materials from the Security Service of the Polish People's Republic (reports obtained by the Security Service) and other documentary collections have not been checked."

The film "Leukoma" attacked Saint John Paul II. There was a thesis that when he was the metropolitan bishop of Krakow, he knew about cases of sexual abuse by priests, but he hid this information.


In the statement issued by the TVN 24 station, one can read about "undermining media freedom and attempting to introduce censorship." The number of complaints received by the National Broadcasting Council after this documentary was record-breaking and amounted to over 6,000. In total, almost 40,000 citizens signed these complaints.
