Sentenced to Blues is a 2005 Polish biographical musical feature film directed by Jan Kidawa-Błoński.

The film presents the life story of the vocalist of the band Dżem – Ryszard Riedel. The title character was played by Tomasz Kot, and Riedel's wife was played by Jolanta Fraszyńska. In addition, the film features the previous vocalist of the band Dżem – Maciej Balcar, who was replaced by Ryszard's son, Sebastian Riedel. Anna Dymna can also be seen on screen as the mother of "Gola".
The action of the film begins in 1976 in Tychy, in one of the Silesian housing estates. 20-year-old Rysiek, although intelligent and quick-witted, does not work, he finished his education at primary school, he barely passed, he lives from day to day on his parents' pot, in constant conflict with his father, a member of ORMO, fascinated by Western music and hippie culture, full of dreams of an Indian life on the prairies. These dreams have been stuck in him since his childhood spent in gloomy tenement houses, when together with his best friend "Indianer" they played in the Redskins. Rysiek meets Małgosia, called Gola, a girl from the same housing estate, who likes a tall boy who is taking his first steps in a local band. A passionate feeling develops between them. Gola, while still a student, becomes pregnant.
Expelled from school, she soon marries Rysiek. Rysiek's father, who was against this relationship to the end, sends the Military Internal Service to him, but they side with the boy, Małgosia and her mother, later changing the locks on the doors in the apartment where the young couple are to live, but Rysiek insists on his own. On their wedding day, Indianer gives him a syringe with a dose of "compote" for the first time. From then on, the drug high will constantly tempt Rysiek.
The year 1990 comes. Dżem is one of the most famous bands in the country, gives many concerts, has thousands of fans. But behind the scenes, the drama of the band's leader is going on. Rysiek is sinking deeper and deeper into addiction, often finding it hard to even make it to the end of a concert, he lives in a world of drug visions. The admired idol is sinking lower and lower, begging for drugs. The care for the home falls solely on the shoulders of Gosia, who remains at her husband's side, increasingly tired and desperate. But neither she nor her bandmates, who are passing by a lucrative contract, are able to prevent the tragedy.
