People using an electronic ID document from July 2023 must remember to renew their mObywatel profile and mDowodu certificate.

The Ministry of Digitization informs that since version 4.36.1 of the mObywatel application, the process of renewing the mDowod certificate and the mObywatel profile has been simplified. Simply use the "Get new" button on the main screen when you see the message about the need to update your profile. If you do not see information about the expiring profile on the main screen, go to the "More" tab and then select "Issued certificates". If you still do not see the option to update, check the "Issued certificates" tab to see how long your current certificate is valid until. The option to update will appear 14 days before the current one expires.

The mDowod is equivalent to a traditional ID card and can be used to confirm your identity in Poland, for example in banks, offices or notaries. A traditional, plastic ID card is currently only needed in two situations: abroad and when applying for a new ID card.

The Ministry points out that each mDowod has a certificate that allows you to use the application and confirm your identity. This certificate is used to encrypt personal data and is obtained when adding the first document to the application. It is valid for one year.
