Success of a doctoral student from AMU

Alexandra Staniewska, a doctoral student at the Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology of Adam Mickiewicz University (Faculty of Anthropology and Cultural Studies), is a member of the international research team that identified the remains of Bishop Teodomiro.

A priest who lived at the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries is known for discovering the body of the apostle Saint James the Greater in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. According to legend, the body got there from Jerusalem with the help of angels. Today, one of the most important Christian routes in Europe leads to Santiago de Compostela.

Researchers believe that Teodomiro is the oldest identified historical figure in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe. A publication summarizing the research results was published in the journal "Antiquity".
