The related ceremonies are part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Border Protection Corps. The initiator of bringing the remains of the late. brigadier general Gen. Jan Kazimierz Kruszewski to the Homeland is Marek Szypulski - President of the Polish Humanitarian Fund in Lailly-en-Val. The Border Guard, as a formation continuing the traditions of the Border Protection Corps, as well as the Institute of National Remembrance and the Association of Veterans of Polish Border Formations, also joined this initiative. The activities were supported by members of the general's family.

Brig. Gen. Jan Kazimierz Kruszewski "Kruk Czarny" came from the village of Aleksandrowo in Ciechanów County. From an early age, he participated in the fight for Poland's independence, which led him to the Polish Legions and eventually to the Polish Army. From October 1930 to August 1939 he was the commander of the Border Protection Corps, and during the September Campaign he commanded the Operational Group. On September 27, 1939, in Piaski, he was captured by the Germans, where he remained until 1945. After the war, he remained in exile in France, where he died on March 28, 1977 in the Retirement Home of the Polish Humanitarian Fund in Lailly-en-Val. He was buried in the local cemetery.

General Kruszewski was the main implementer of the concept of reorganizing the Border Protection Corps, according to which it was to provide Poland with strategic cover from the east. It was thanks to his organizational work that the KOP was able to write a glorious note on the days of the Soviet invasion on September 17, 1939.

The general's remains will be ceremonially exhumed from the cemetery in Lailly-en-Val in France next Saturday and after the mass they will set off on their way to Poland. In his homeland, General Kruszewski will be buried with full honors in the Alley of the Meritorious at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.
