The demographic crisis in Europe is becoming even more serious

The fewest children in Europe are born in Malta while the most in France.

In all European Union countries, 3.88 million children were born last year, which is less in comparison to the previous year (4.09 million), informed Eurostat - the European Statistical Office.

The average fertility rate in the EU is 1.46 births per woman. France is in first place - 1.79 births per woman. Romania is second - 1.71, and Bulgaria - third - 1.65.

The worst fertility rate was recorded in Malta - only 1.08. In Italy it was 1.16 and in Poland 1.29.

In all EU countries, the fertility rate is not able to ensure generation replacement. The number of children born in the EU has been falling continuously since 2008.
