The government increases the tax on food products. Chain stores will freeze prices

“Biedronka” joins the price freezing initiative, just like competitive chains “Lidl” and “Kaufland”. This decision is a response to the planned VAT increase to 5% from the beginning of April. The increase could significantly burden customers' wallets after the Easter.

Donald Tusk's government is withdrawing from the zero VAT rate on food products introduced by its predecessors from Law and Justice.

"It is estimated that in February and March this year, both inflation and the growth rate of food prices will continue to decline."

– we read in the press release.

Major grocery stores are responding to the government's decision

“Biedronka” has been delaying its decision for a long time, but it has finally joined “Lidl” and “Kaufland” and has decided to freeze food product prices in April.

In their latest press release, “Biedronka” representatives announced that they will not increase the prices of over 4,000 products in April. This initiative is intended to protect customers from a sudden tax change, allowing them to continue shopping at unchanged prices. This is particularly important considering that other retail chains have already taken similar steps to mitigate the impact of the tax increase on customers' pockets.

It is worth noting, however, that the price freezing campaign will not apply to some products, such as bread from local suppliers and vegetables and fruits whose prices are subject to seasonal fluctuations. However, the prices of long-term shelf-stable products, such as pasta and flour, will remain unchanged. The full list of products covered by the campaign will be available on the website and in the chain's stationary stores. “Biedronka” undertakes to monitor the situation and regularly update customers about the products covered by the promotion.

This initiative is good news for customers, especially that “Biedronka” decided to implement it relatively late in response to changing tax conditions. Thanks to this, customers can expect stable prices of basic food products throughout April.
