The new rector of the Krakow University of Science and Technology (AGH)

Prof. Jerzy Lis won the elections and was elected for a second term.


178 electoral votes were cast for Professor Jerzy Lis. His second term as Rector of AGH will start on September 1, 2024.


In an environment that is changing extremely dynamically and driven by technological development, we are looking for ways to constantly improve the quality of education at AGH, the competitiveness of research and the possibility of even greater transfer of technology to society. I would like to thank the University Electoral College for entrusting me with the task of managing the university for another term. In the coming years, it will be crucial for me to effectively follow trends in the education market, so that our offer responds, even better, to the needs in the area of education and groundbreaking research. Our priority is to provide our graduates with key competences of the future - emphasizes Prof. Jerzy Lis, Rector of AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków.


Prof. Ph.D. engineer Jerzy Lis has been associated with AGH since 1973, when he started studies at the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, majoring in Materials Engineering. He obtained a doctorate in technical sciences in 1986 in the discipline of materials engineering, a habilitated doctorate in 1995, and a professor of technical sciences in 2000.


In his research activities, prof. Jerzy Lis specializes in materials engineering and chemical technology. He is a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and was a member of the Presidium of the Krakow Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences for two terms. He also belongs to the Polish Ceramic Society and the Polish Society of Electron Microscopy. His scientific achievements include, among others: approximately 400 publications, 6 books and 18 patents. He was the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Krakow Center for Innovative Technologies INNOAGH and is currently the vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Krakow Technology Park.


Prof. J. Lis serves on foreign scientific bodies. In 2002, he was appointed to the prestigious World Academy of Ceramics. He is a member of the scientific councils of the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, as well as vice-chairman of the Scientific Council of the Łukasiewicz Network of the Institute of Ceramics and Refractory Materials. He is also the Chairman of the International Cooperation Committee of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools in the 2020–2024 term and a member of the Presidium of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools. He also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities in the 2020-2024 term and is the Vice-Chairman of the College of Rectors of Krakow Higher Education Institutions.
