The NON-FICTION Reportage Festival moves to Gdynia

NON-FICTION was established in 2016 as a festival independent of publishing houses, media and cultural institutions. So far, 8 editions have been held, which have made it one of the most interesting thematic festivals in Poland. Each edition has its own theme around which the program focuses. So far, these include "City", "Authority", "Home" and "Jutro". This year, due to the move to the other end of Poland, the theme will be "The Sea".

NON-FICTION was established in 2016 as a festival independent of publishing houses, media and cultural institutions. So far, 8 editions have been held, which have made it one of the most interesting thematic festivals in Poland. Each edition has its own theme around which the program focuses. So far, these include "City", "Authority", "Home" and "Tomorrow". This year, due to the move to the other end of Poland, the theme will be "The Sea".

– We will talk about migration and migrants, the border, colonialism, nuclear power plants, Kashubia, and, of course, the sea. As always, we will treat the theme of the festival broadly, as a starting point for a conversation about various aspects of the modern world - says Szymon Pasaj, the originator and organizer of the festival.

The program of this year's edition - also thanks to the move to our city - will be enriched with non-literary forms of reportage: radio, podcasts and a photo reportage exhibition.

– We attach great importance to issues related to the accessibility of festival activities for people with special needs. In this respect, the Gdynia City Museum is a revolution compared to the historical buildings in Krakow that previously hosted NON-FICTION. Of course, we do not give up on live broadcasts or translation into Polish sign language. We try to do everything to make our events available to the widest possible group of participants - adds Marceli Wójcik, member of the Re-prezentacje Association and one of the festival producers.

For years, the festival organizers have been placing special emphasis on topics related to social sensitivity, various forms of exclusion, ecological disaster, poverty, labor market and gentrification. For years, half or more of the people invited to discussions have been women.

– The festival has no director, hierarchy or rigid organizational structure. We try to create it collectively: we prepare the program together, invite authors, deal with logistics and promotion - adds Dorota Skowron, a member of the association and the organizational brain of the festival.

The NON-FICTION Festival is part of the Coalition of Summer Literary Festivals, which strives to network cooperation between festivals and increase the ecological awareness of Polish publishing houses, representatives of the book market, media and culture recipients.

The full festival program will be announced in the second half of May. All details will be available on Facebook and the website www.nonfiction.pl.
