Two Oscars for Polish film production, Oppenheimer with a Polish accent

The 96th Oscars gala is behind us. The Oscar Favorite turned out to be Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan. Out of 13 nominations, the film received as many as 7 statuettes. Oppenheimer was awarded for:

Best film, best leading actor - Cillian Murphy, best supporting actor - Robert Downey Jr., best director - Christopher Nolan, best cinematography, best editing, best music - this Oscar went to Ludwig Göransson, who has Polish roots. He is half Polish and as he said in one of the interviews:

“I try to come at least once a year to visit grandma and grandpa. Poland has a wonderful musical history. Whenever I come back to Warsaw, I go to summer Chopin concerts in Łazienki. I love Polish composers: Kilar, Paderewski. I also like listening to Anna Maria Jopek”.


The photos for the film were taken by Hoyte van Hoytema, who honed his craft at the Łódź Film School.


It is not the only Polish accent at the 96th gala of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. "The Zone of Interest" - Polish production won in the following categories: Best sound and best international film.


Director Jonathan Glazer used Polish filmmakers and producers to make the film. The co-producer is Ewa Puszczyńska, and the cinematographer is Łukasz Żal. The Polish Film Institute co-financed the production. The film was shot, among others, in the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum.
