Westerplatte trailer Gdańsk – Westerplatte

The next installment of the Trailer project. This time in Gdańsk. An extremely rich program from Westerplatte to the Gdańsk Shipyard. Here, NATO soldiers "touched" important events in the history of the Polish nation.

The trailer has been run by the Vilnius Center for Culture and Spirituality for two editions now. Representatives of the Lithuanian institution - Mrs. Regina Karpowicz, director of the Center and Father Marek Dettlaff - a Franciscan from Vilnius - were with NATO soldiers at Westerplatte. They both agreed that the Trailer is a very necessary project. As the operators of the project, they are very proud that they can continue it.

The soldiers of the North Atlantic Alliance listened to the story about the beginning of World War II, which began in our country, at Westerplatte. It was on September 1, 1939, just before five in the morning. Despite the overwhelming enemy forces, Westerplatte was defended until September 7, although the Germans assumed that it would take them 15 minutes to capture Westerplatte.

In tribute to the Polish soldiers who died on Westerplatte, soldiers from the USA, Croatia, Romania and Great Britain lit candles at the Virtuti Militari and Coast Defenders monument. Our allies were very moved by the heroism of Major Henryk Sucharski and his brave brothers-in-arms. They also had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Old Town of Gdańsk, unique in other cities, not only in Poland but all over the world, as well as the church of St. Bridget, which houses the only Amber Altar of the Homeland in the world. It was consecrated by John Paul II - the Polish Pope in 2000.

The continuation of the project would not be possible without the support of the Polish National Foundation.
